In
the Pender Harbour Abbeyfield House:
- There
will be bed-sitting rooms with attached bathroom accommodations (310
sq. ft.) for 10 elderly seniors.
- Each unit
will have an external door leading to a small patio.
- The atmosphere
will be a comfortable, homey one – not institutionalized.
- Residents
will furnish their units with items they bring from their own homes
or apartments.
- There
will be a common dining room, seating 16, a large kitchen, smaller breakout
rooms, storage and laundry rooms plus a common bath/shower room. Units

- A live-in
house coordinator (apartment provided on the third floor) will be responsible
for providing two home-cooked meals/day and making breakfast supplies
available on a self-serve basis. This person must be a real “people
person” who likes working with seniors; plus he or she must be
able to manage a budget, shop for food supplies cost effectively, prepare
nutritious meals, anticipate and solve problems, and generally create
the right kind of atmosphere in the House.
- A relief
coordinator will be hired for 2 days per week. Gardening and cleaning
help will be hired as needed. A suite will be provided for the relief
coordinator, that could also be rented out (when not in use) for overnight
accommodation of visitors who come from a distance to spend time with
residents.

Board of Directors will oversee the operation of the House, including
the application process, maintenance, staff supervision, financial management,
etc.
- Parking
will be available for residents and visitors as well as staff.
- Home
care nurses will be able to provide services just as they do now in
a person’s own home.

driving service will be started to help residents get to doctor’s
appointments, etc.
